Hanseatic Merchant

Hanseatic Merchant – a historical figure of the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg as an exclusive PLAYMOBIL special set

The PLAYMOBIL special set 72414 SMU Hanseatic Merchant was developed in cooperation with the Museum Lüneburg to accompany the special exhibition “Abenteuer HANSE” by diorama artist Oliver Schaffer. The figure reflects Lüneburg’s history as an important trading city of the Hanseatic League and depicts a Lüneburg Hanseatic merchant, also known as a Sülfmeister. These wealthy merchants owed their prosperity to the trade in Lüneburg salt, which was exported throughout large parts of the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions during the Middle Ages as “white gold.” This special edition is aimed at museum visitors, collectors, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the Hanseatic League and the history of Lüneburg.
